NTRA participates in a cybersecurity discussion held by the British Egyptian Business Association

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) participated in a panel discussion on cybersecurity entitled “How to Mitigate the Growing Digital Risks & Hazards” organized by the British Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) in Cairo.

Dr. Ahmed Abdel Hafez, VP for cybersecurity affairs at NTRA and the head of the Executive Office for the Supreme Council for Cybersecurity, participated in the panel discussion alongside many pioneers and business leaders in addition to experts in cybersecurity.

In the midst of his speech, Abdel Hafez explained to the audience how the Egyptian state paid great attention to cybersecurity, whether by forming a Supreme Council for Cybersecurity in 2014 or by issuing a national strategy for cybersecurity 2023-2027 that works to protect Egyptian cyberspace and promote economic growth and prosperity by establishing a national industry that contributes to increase the gross domestic product.

Abdel Hafez pointed out the importance of strengthening local and international cooperation to increase cyber defense capabilities, which is one of the most important axes of the national cybersecurity strategy. He stressed the need for agencies and companies to have specialists in the field of cybersecurity in light of the presence of many vacant jobs in this field, which is what the capacity building axis overcomes by providing academic studies, training courses, and awareness seminars to create strong human cadres, as well as to change societal culture regarding cybersecurity, as lack of awareness of the importance and necessity of securing data and information is considered the main cause of most cyber incidents.

NTRA’s participation in the discussion aimed to increase awareness of cybersecurity, and to clarify the Egyptian state’s strategy to reduce digital risks and threats for the sake of a secure cyberspace capable of withstanding cyberattacks.
