Post Date: September 12, 2024
The Arab Republic of Egypt continued its international and global leadership in the field of cybersecurity by topping the 5th edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Egypt achieved a full score of 100 points, equal to Mauritius, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
And came among 47 countries in tier 1 of the index, which includes countries that are considered role models and achieved a total score between 95 and 100 out of 100 points.
Egypt’s rise in GCI ranking, after it was ranked 23rd in 2020, reflects the efforts and achievements of the National Center for Computer and Network Emergency Readiness (EG-CERT) affiliated with the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), which falls under the supervision of the Supreme Council for Cybersecurity, which issued the National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023-2027).
The Egyptian state pays great attention to cybersecurity through many initiatives, training and awareness campaigns that aim to build the capacities of Egyptian society, qualify technical cadres and competencies, and raise awareness of cybersecurity, in addition to strengthening cooperation frameworks at the national and international levels by concluding many cooperation agreements with national and international institutions.
The ITU issues the GCI every two years, which ranks different countries in the field of cybersecurity according to their achievements in 5 axes: the legal axis, the organizational axis, the technical axis, the cooperation axis, and the capacity building axis.
